Long time ago I heard about a network company that put in danger personal data of its customers. The whole case took place after the company has replaced old computer equipment from its server room with the new one. The workers of the company did a stupid thing as they did not bother what they should do with hard drives, servers and all this kind of stuff and they just threw it away to the garbage. They did not realize what it may lead to. Some time after that many people got their bank accounts cleaned up and the police started to investigate the situation. Firstly no one connected those two separate cases. Well actually no one knew that the company threw away the computer equipment to the garbage. IT specialists from the investigation centre helped the police to find the person responsible for the crimes very quickly. It was also an IT specialist who worked in the network company. He used the personal data information that was lying in the garbage. Thanks to that information he was able to access the bank accounts of common people and he stole money from them. The whole situation shocked the public opinion in the whole country and I believe that it was one of the cases that started the changes in law and all the procedures in companies that are storing personal data files. Nowadays we can be sure that our personal data is safely closed in a server room.
